Nicholas Mithen

I am an intellectual historian, presently based at Newcastle University in the UK. Most of my research is focussed on early modern Europe and the emergence of the intellectual, political and religious constitution of the modern age. I work between the history of scholarship, the history of religion and belief, and the history of political thought; I am particularly interested in how these fields interact, in an age before they were sharply differentiated from one another. I am also interested in how scholars have thought about early modern past in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
